About the process: My approach to designing

Date: 01/05/2023

In 2016, I became the owner of my own company called Merely Susan, which was born out of my passion for watercolor painting and designing patterns for digital printing on various products such as fabrics and wallpapers. At that time, my main goal was to share my creativity with others.

During the first few years of developing my own business, I sold prints of my watercolor artwork and collaborated with clients on pattern design. In 2020, I made the decision to engage in creating my own collection of digitally printed fabrics featuring my hand-painted pattern designs, and in 2021, I began working on my first textile collection.

Today, I focus on bringing my own ideas and projects to life, offering items such as art prints, fabrics, and textiles, and engaging with private customers. In this article, I want to share my approach to design and describe the values and principles that guide me as the business owner.

Thoughtful Process

I prioritize a calm and thoughtful creative process to offer products with high artistic and craftsmanship value. I share my process and provide my customers with knowledge and information about my products, helping them make choices that will keep them happy for longer.

Time for Storytelling

An important part of my work is dedicating time to tell the stories behind the products in my shop. I want my customers to choose them not only because they are visually appealing, but also because there is a real person behind them who invests time in creating something unique.

Natural Materials

I focus on high quality and natural materials, i.e. organic cotton and linen. I prefer production technologies that are safe for our health and the environment, which are confirmed by the relevant certificates, i.e. Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and GOTS for fabrics and FSC for paper products.

Human Connection

The greatest value of my work is personal contact with clients – sharing my work with them. I consciously focus on sales to private individuals, resigning from development towards wholesale for companies. I produce locally and on a small scale – as much as I can sell myself without intrusive advertising.
